Las Olas Boulevard is the answer to the question my guests ask the most: "Where should we go tonight?" It's the spine of downtown Fort Lauderdale — a tree-lined stretch of restaurants, galleries, shops, and waterfront that's walkable, safe, and packed with character.
Here's the thing about Las Olas: it's not a tourist trap pretending to be local. Locals actually go there. That's what makes it worth the recommendation.
Below are the spots I tell every guest about — five places that have stood the test of time, get great reviews, and consistently make the guest experience better. From a 24-hour diner that's been on Las Olas since 1937 to a waterfront Italian institution, here's where to start.
The Floridian Restaurant
An icon since 1937. Diner classics, generous portions, and the kind of bottomless coffee that fixes anything that ails you. It's open 24 hours, so it's also the answer to "where do we go after a late flight?"
Casa D'Angelo Ristorante
Chef Angelo Elia's flagship — old-school Northern Italian with handmade pasta, an exceptional wine list, and the kind of attentive service that's gotten rare. Perfect for a date night or a celebration.
Big City Tavern
Live music, a long bar, and a menu that bridges American comfort food with global influences. Loud enough to feel like a night out, quiet enough to actually have a conversation.
Coconuts
Technically a few blocks off Las Olas, but every Las Olas night should end here. Tiki-bar energy, fresh seafood, and a dock view that puts you ten feet from the Intracoastal. Arrive by boat or by Uber.
YOLO (You Only Live Once)
A Las Olas mainstay with an open-air patio that's prime real estate on a perfect Fort Lauderdale evening. Strong cocktails, modern American menu, and the energy of a place that's been doing this well for a long time.
How to do Las Olas right: park once and walk it. Start at the east end (closer to the beach) and work your way west toward downtown, or vice versa. The whole strip is under a mile, well-lit, and people-watching is half the experience.
If you stayed at Jonathan's House, Las Olas is about a 10-minute drive — easy by Uber, even easier by water taxi if you want to make an event of it.
